It stops in Cardiff, Wales, where guests will be treated to a traditional choir music concert in a castle in the countryside. The itinerary heads to the coast of France, Belgium and the Netherlands before heading north to Sweden and Denmark, crossing the Baltic Sea with stops in Finland, Estonia and Latvia, then swinging back west and north to Norway. From there, Silver Spirit heads back around to Sicily and Naples in southern Italy to explore the Southern Mediterranean, north to Rome, and along the Cote d’Azur with stops in Marseille, France, and Monaco. Positioned at the end of the summer season, the itinerary visits the Adriatic Coast, Greek Isles and Eastern Mediterranean as well as the Southern and Western Mediterranean.
I didn’t make it to Kaiseki and La Dame on this trip (though have experienced both on other voyages). Spaccanapoli and the Hot Rocks are now in the Marquee at dinner and are just as you may remember. What was immediately striking to me and is a departure for Silversea in terms of the ship’s layout and design, is its asymmetry. Did you know the Panorama Lounge is a Silversea signature venue? It debuted on the Silver Cloud, Silversea’s first ship, in 1994 and is on every classic vessel since, always at the aft. The outdoor Dusk Bar, aft (the back of the ship) on Deck 10, is a new venue for Silversea. Its location means you can watch the wake as Silver Nova is traveling, one of my favorite views on a ship. Beyond the bar are comfortable wide-lapped chairs, some in semi-shade, others in sun, where I hope I can spend at least a few minutes of relaxation. It’s the best place onboard for sailaway (see our video, below).
For Silver Nova, the architectural team filled Decks 6 to 9 with nothing but suites. This longitudinal distribution means you will not find common areas on these decks and that the ceiling height is what you would find elsewhere on Silversea ships. Classic itineraries covering more of Australia include a 17-day trip from Singapore to Brisbane on Silver Muse, including ports like Cairns to view the Great Barrier Reef or join a rainforest journey. In Darwin, Australia's capital of the north, head out on the Adelaide River to look for jumping crocodiles. Expect an expedition team of experts in fields like history to lead many of the outings.
The 1240 km long flight is over Drake Passage and on a Silversea-chartered plane adapted to land on King George Island. The business-class flight takes 2 hours (in each direction), avoiding ~4 days of sea navigation on the return leg of the cruise. An in-flight entertainment program includes information briefings on the Zodiacs (cruise ship's high-speed boats used for landings) and IAATO (International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators). After the first flight follows 5 full Antarctica cruising days. There are lecturers on all voyages, offering insights into the cultures of the destinations visited. Sometimes Silversea provides a bridge instructor or a golf pro for lessons at the practice nets on each ship.
